Exploring the Trades Camp

Exploring the Trades camp offers students who have completed Grade 6, 7 or 8 a fun, hands-on experience with a focus on strengthening trade-related math skills.  During this program, students will explore the fundamentals of trades areas in construction, carpentry, transportation and communication.  The day will emphasize safety and proper use of tools and equipment while having fun.

Students will explore personal interests and careers in the skilled trades, learn about the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) and Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) programs in pathways exploration activities.

Experiential learning camps “enhance the already rich learning environments of our schools, providing students with alternative ways of engaging in their learning.” Through the Experiential Learning Cycle students will actively participate, reflect and apply their learning. “The development of a reflective mindset gives students the ability to turn every experience into a learning experience.” Community-Connected Experiential Learning, Ministry of Education, pages 8 & 9.
