IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Registration for Summer Classes is now CLOSED.


This summer classes are ONLY available for REFUGEE CLAIMANTS under special funding from MLITSD for Asylum Claimants to Canada. 
Refugee Claimants must have a valid language assessment, must show proof of status and must live in Durham Region.
  • Fee for services classes are NOT available for Visitors & Study Permits that do not fall under the federal or provincial requirements for LINC or ESL classes
  • Permanent Residents, Convention Refugees, CUAET and naturalized Canadian Citizens ARE NOT ELIGIBLE to take classes in July 2024 this year.

Summer Schedule:  Monday to Friday from
July 2-26, 2024

 

 Level 5&6 ONLINE/HYBRID - FULL
 9:00am-11:30am, students will attend ONLINE on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and IN PERSON (at Ajax Welcome Centre) on Wednesdays
 Level 3&4 ONLINE/HYBRID - FULL

 12:00pm-2:30pm, students will attend ONLINE on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and IN PERSON (at Ajax Welcome Centre) on Wednesdays

 SEPTEMBER Day Classes & Night Classes

September 2024 Information - next session starts on September 9, 2024

Registration for our daytime classes opens on Monday August 26, 2024.
All daytime classes are Monday to Friday.  Students must be able to attend 5 days/week.
Ajax Welcome Centre Immigrant Services - 458 Fairall Street, Ajax ON
The school is located inside the Ajax Welcome Centre UNIT 5 at the north-east corner of Fairall Street and Westney Road.
Enter through the Fairall Street doors at South Reception or drive through the parking lot to the back of the building and enter through the North Reception doors.

Ajax Continuing Education Centre - 458 Fairall Street, Ajax ON
The school is located inside the Archbishop Anthony Meagher Continuing Education Center UNIT 7 at the north-east corner of Fairall Street and Westney Road.
Enter the parking lot and the school is on the west side of the building next to AYA Kitchens.

Whitby Language Center - 1003 Giffard Street, Whitby ON 

The school is located near the corner of Dundas Street (Highway 2) and Cochrane Street in Whitby, on Giffard Street between St John the Evangelist Church and St John the Evangelist Elementary School. Enter the church parking lot and you will see the school on the right side.

Night School - next session starts October 2024!

Registration will open on Monday August 26, 2024.

Night classes will ONLY be offered HYBRID/ONLINE.

Students will participate ONLINE and MUST attend 1 scheduled NIGHT session each month at the Ajax Welcome Centre (458 Fairall Street, Ajax ON).

You must have a COMPUTER or LAPTOP to participate.

 

CLB 6+ Students:  If you have CLB 6 or higher in all 4 skills (Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing) you are eligible to take our credit or non-credit adult courses.  If you would like to sign-up for courses, please register at the following link and the main office will contact you to set up an appointment with a Guidance/PLAR Assessor.  https://dcdsb.formbuilder.ca/Con-Ed-Registration-form-Oshawa

Online classes will be online using Teams virtual platform and D2L learning platform

Important Information for ONLINE students:

Students must have a computer, laptop or tablet at home with Internet or WiFi to participate in the Online Classes.

You CANNOT attend the Online classes with a phone.

The school has a limited number of Chromebook computers available to lend out to  local DURHAM students.  Please email the office at LearnEnglish@dcdsb.ca if you want to have your name added to the waiting list for a Chromebook.

3. Important Information:

  • Attendance Policy - students must participate each day.  Poor attendance will result in removal from the class

4. Need Technology?

  • Technology Required - Online students must have a computer, Chromebook, tablet or laptop to participate in the class.
    • If you only have a cellphone/smartphone you will not be able to fully participate in the class.  
  • The Ajax Library has a lending/borrowing program available for residents of Durham.
