Young Parent School Program

The Young Parent School Program can help parents who are 16 - 26 years of age who are interested in earning credits for their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).

What is the Parent School Program?

The Young Parent School program allows young mothers and fathers to obtain credits for OSSD while studying in a supported learning environment.  Students in the program are supported by caring adults that include a teacher from the Durham Catholic District School Board and a Rose of Durham counsellor. 

Who is eligible for the Young Parent School Program?

If you are parenting or pregnant and:

  • Between the ages of 16 - 26 years of age and are registered with the Rose of Durham;
  • Enrolled in Durham Catholic DSB alternative education or in adult education.

What supports are provided by the Rose of Durham?

You will have a Rose of Durham Counsellor for support while you are in the program. 

Rose of Durham supports include:

  • 1:1 counselling
  • Community connections
  • Family donations

Program Details

Students who are 16 & 17 years of age are registered with Father Donald MacLellan CSS.

Students who are 18 - 26 years of age are registered in Adult Education with Archbishop Anthony Meagher CCEC.

The Program is:

  • Located at the Rose of Durham, 707 Simcoe Street S., Oshawa
  • Mondays and Wednesdays (10:00 am - 2:00 pm) - students will be required to book an appointment to attend in class
  • Begins Monday, September 11, 2023
  • Continuous Intake

The Program provides:

  • Hot lunch
  • Access to all programs and services at the Rose of Durham
  • Options to earn credits for OSSD
  • Credit recovery
  • PLAR (Prior Learning Assessment & Recognition) for mature students
  • 1:1 support for young parents.
