Are you a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) Level 6 or higher student?
The English for the Workplace Program helps improve newcomer adults' English skills to prepare for their high school diploma (Ontario Secondary School Diploma), workplace, and/or post-secondary education.
Students will build their English skills through a number of topics including English skills, business writing and communication, customer service, job search, resume writing, interview skills, managing information, and more.
The program will help you to:
- Build your skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking;
- Further develop the skills that are essential to success in the Canadian workplace - reading text, document use, numeracy, writing, oral communication, working with others, thinking skills, computer use and continuous learning;
- Earn credits toward the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD);
- Get guidance support for successful transition to OSSD, work and/or post-secondary education.
Eligibility
- Must be 18 years of age or older;
- Completed an English language assessment at CLB Level 6 or higher in Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing or;
- Completed a LINC or ESL course at CLB Level 6 or higher in Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing
Program Details
Location: Continuing Education, Ajax Campus, 458 Fairall St., Unit 7
Students will begin by taking the OLC4O - Ontario Literacy Course. After completion of the course, the teacher will provide each student with a recommendation for their next course, which may include continuation in the Ontario Literacy Course. Students can begin in any of the following semesters:
Semester 1: September 5 - October 30 (Monday - Friday)
Ontario Literacy Course (OLC4O): 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Semester 2: October 31 - December 22 (Monday - Friday)
Ontario Literacy Course (OLC4O): 8:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
Semester 3: January 8 to March 1 (Monday - Friday)
Ontario Literacy Course (OLC4O): 11:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Semester 4: March 4 - May 6 (Monday - Friday)
Ontario Literacy Course (OLC4O): 2:00 - 4:30 pm
Semester 5: May 7 - June 28 (Monday - Friday)
Ontario Literacy Course (OLC4O): 8:30 am - 11:00 a.m.
Registration
New students must complete the Adult Day School Registration Form.
You must provide the following information:
- Photo ID
- Proof of legal status in Canada (i.e. Permanent Resident Card, Conventional Refugee form)
- Proof of CLB Level 6

Students can discuss additional course options by selecting a guidance appointment on the registration form.
Students who register for Adult Day School will receive more information about their first day of class by email. Please ensure you are checking your email, including junk mail, before the first day of class.
Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR)
Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition is a formal evaluation and credit granting process that allows mature students to obtain credits for their Ontario Secondary School Diploma for knowledge and skills learned outside school.
You can earn credits for learning and skills you have acquired at school, at home, at work, in training programs and volunteer work. This applies to schooling, work and experiences you have from outside Canada.
