About the Program

 

The Custodial Services Training Program is an 18-week program that is designed to prepare individuals with the skills necessary for entry-level custodial positions. Classroom time consists of learning safety practices and protocols, as well as the practical knowledge required for custodial services.  Students can earn 5 high school credits and gain on-the-job experience.
Custodians are integral members of an organization. Their responsibilities provide staff with a safe, clean, and secure environment. Today’s custodial profession requires a great deal of knowledge and skill.  Custodians are extremely important to the running of an efficient organization and maintaining a healthy environment.  
The Custodial Services Training Program has two parts:
Part 1 – In school (9 weeks) 8:30 am – 1:30 pm with a digital literacy component to enhance 21st century learning skills.  Students can earn 2 credits for this component
Part 2 – Job Placement (9 weeks) Cooperative Education placement for 3 credits – times of work will vary depending on the placement.

 

Program Benefits

The benefits of the program include:

  • 9 weeks of focused classroom learning for workplace preparation;
  • 9 weeks of on-the-job experience in the cooperative education placement;
  • Build your resume with certifications in First Aid/CPR, WHMIS, Fall Arrest, Power Hand Tool Safety, Worker Safety Awareness, Infection Prevention and Control, Workplace Violence and Harassment Prevention;
  • Network with employers and community agencies; and
  • Learn about safety protocols, cleaning procedures, equipment training, use of tools and become trained by knowledgeable professionals in the industry.

Registration for November 2026

Orientation is mandatory less than one year prior to course start date. You MUST complete the orientation process by successfully passing the literacy assessment and interview.  Successful candidates will be provided with the link for registration and will be required to upload Photo ID (Health Card or Driver Licence), Birth Certificate and/or Permanent Resident or Citizenship Card with the registration.

Students in the program will be required to have a clear Criminal Record Vulnerable Sector Check that is current within 6 months of starting placement.  Some students will be required to have updated immunization and Step 2 T.B. Skin Test  depending on placement.

Note: All individuals who have a Study, Work Permit or Visitor Visa MUST review the DCDSB International Education program page prior to registering for the orientation.
